2000 Volkswagen founded Bugatti Automobiles SAS and presented on the Motor Show in Paris, Geneva and Detroit, one of the EB 16 / 4 Veyron concept, a four-wheel drive 16-cylinder car with a capacity of 1001 hp (736 kW) 8.0-liter turbo four with a targeted top speed of 407 km / h.
At that time it was the most powerful and fastest super sports cars ever built. In acceleration tests the Veyron has 2.5 s to reach a speed of 100 km / h (after 7.3 s 200 km / h after 16.8 s 300 km / h).
The first development took until 2001, and the EB 16 / 4 Veyron was promoted with an "advanced concept" status. The end of 2001, Bugatti Automobiles SAS announced indicates that the car will now officially called Bugatti Veyron 16.4. At first, the start of production was scheduled for 2003. Financial and in particular technical problems however delayed production.
